Just a fun loving cub from South Philadelphia.
Born and raised in the suburbs of Philly, and proud to be from here. I would never live anywhere but in this region! I love lots of other places (NYC, San Francisco, Chicago, Vegas, etc) but would never leave my roots!
In the evening I'm a creature of nightlife. Clubs and bars are my stomping grounds. I love to go out dancing; being a social butterfly is what I'm known for. I’m usually found in Philadelphia’s only leather bar, The Bike Stop. I find it to have the most friendly staff and customers in the entire gayborhood. Plus being a member of the Philadelphia Liberty Bears, it is considered home to me and my brother bears. When not at the Bike Stop I have also been spotted at TYz, PURE, 12th Air Command, and infrequently but often enough Woody’s. During the day I try my best to swing past the Westbury to visit one of my other best friends, Jim “Muffy” who bartends mid-days.
This leads into my chosen profession, I'm a club DJ. Recently my only regular gig is a radio I show in New Jersey. I have played at the vast majority of gay clubs in the Philadelphia gayborhood, and even a few straight places in the city also. I find myself doing special event parties for various groups in the city also. My love for dance music and being a DJ roots from my childhood when I used to love to dance for my parents as a young child. As I grew up dance music always appealed to me. Naturally being a young gay boy in the 80's Madonna had a huge influence on me. Her earlier days were filled with music that usually had maxi singles packed with dance versions that were inspired by New York City dance clubs. So as I grew up I found my way to the clubs of the big apple. Visiting such clubs (Well before I was even legal enough to be in them) like the original Sound Factory I discovered the passion that would be the central focus of the rest of my life.... Dance Music. It was around this time when I discovered the DJ that to this day is still the biggest influence in my life. Junior Vasquez. Junior's weekly parties on Saturday nights that usually ran well into the middle of Sunday afternoons gave me the greatest appreciation of music. Any DJ that could just throw some of the most diverse style of music into one evening and just "Make it work" was a pure genius! So after more than a decade of following this DJ I started to spin locally in Philadelphia myself. Anyone who has ever watched me DJ can just see in my face how much joy I get out of working. I never sit or stand still when working. I'm a dancing fool, usually with all sorts of props (Flashlights, disco balls, light sticks, or anything else) that allow me to be an all around goof in the booth. I have had weekly residences in several clubs/bars in Philadelphia including The Bike Stop, Key West, and TYz.
Outside of work, I like to surround myself with my friends.
I can never say this next line enough....
I WAS BLESSED WITH THE BEST FRIENDS IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!
In the little family I have with my closest circle of friends "The House of Sitters", I landed the roll of Mother. So I'm usually the one having my friends over for dinner, taking them out to the movies, amusement parks, on vacations, etc. I love doing it too. Nothing makes me happier then watching my friends happy. I love going shopping with my friends. Most of my friends (Juanita especially) have the same ability as I do, and that is to get lost at Target for hours. Most of my friends (Especially one of my all time closest friends Jonathan) also share the same love for music (And Junior Vasquez) so I tend to spend lots of time with my friends trading and talking about current music.
I was a student at the Art Institute f Philadelphia for Digital Media Production, but financial situations forced me to take a short leave from school until I pay off a old debt. Hopefully that will get fixed in the not so distant future. I went to school to build my knowledge of some of my other hobbies. Those were Digital Video and Media production. For some period of time I have been doing freelance video editing and DVD creation. I was doing some very good quality work, but without any degree I found that my chances of landing a decent paying full time job at it would be difficult. My knowledge of digital audio was already well established (I'm a DJ remember.) As long as I have been spinning music I have also been reconstructing, remixing, creating, and playing with digital audio. So after years of working with digital audio, I found digital video & DVD production to be very easy to fall into. I was able to make some very noteworthy and lucrative projects for some big name clients. The only downside is that it is not too regular of an income source.
When I'm not being a DJ, or doing video projects my income is pretty much dependent of my online marketing hobby. EBay! EBay is an addiction of mine, I buy so much crap it is not even funny. Fortunately I can make as much money on eBay as I spend.
So considering I do not have a fulltime day job with taxes and all that other fun stuff, I do manage to live rather comfortably in my little row home. More money and a bit more stability would be very nice, and I would not turn down a decent day job if it landed my way.
I’m sure I have lots of other little details I could add about my life here, but I’m sure your very sick of reading all of this already. So feel free to read my journal. I’m going to avoid making my posts private or friends only. I am new to using the Live Journal so if you try to add me as a friend and I do not do the same, just forgive me until get the knack of it.
Happy reading!
